As to what are LEDs, they are small light
sources that become illuminated by the movement of electrons through a
semiconductor material. LEDs is short for Light-emitting diode, can be
integrated into all sorts of products to provide red green blue yellow and white
light, such as flashlights, light bulbs, and integrated light fixtures. The
LEDs can be divided into Low-Powered LEDs and High-Powered LEDs. Low-Powered
LEDs used to draw attention to something, such as an exit sign, a green power
button on a computer, or a red blinking etc and High-Powered LEDs used to
illuminate an area. ENERGY STAR qualified LED lighting uses multiple
illuminator LEDs inside a fixture to produce white light.
We should talk about LED from two sides, the
advantages and disadvantages.
With the regard to the advantages:
1.
High
luminous efficiency.
2.
Energy-saving.
3.
Long
life service. It can be 50,000 ~ 100,000 hours.
4.
Lightening
in gold-white color being strong to transmit in fog.
5.
Small
volume. It can be smaller than 2mm.
6.
Various
color of yellow - green, amber, red, etc.
7.
Spacious
gamut.
As for the disadvantages, the top one is heat
dissipation. This problem will reduces the lifespan of LED, as a result, how
resolve heat problem of electron component effectively is urgent affairs that
society development have to face at present. And then the problem is costs, LED
lights are somehow expensive to begin with than the others. It is very rare to
see them used in certain applications since it is not widely accepted as an
alternative for other light sources such as fluorescent and incandescent
lights. It only emits a single direction of light which is not applicable to be
used in wide open spaces. Last but not the least, directional light is so
strong that to consider the special optical quality of LED when designing the
Luminaries.
All in all, LED is the emerging industry with
a promising market, all of us should to get some knowledge about it.
